Apartments and some complexes may not appear, and the official street number can differ from the one used by an occupant. If several parcels match, the Anne Arundel account format and map or parcel fields help separate them.

From the parcel card, move to the recorded deed and then to a plat when boundary or subdivision context matters. County GIS can add zoning and planning geography, but SDAT and the clerk remain the sources for assessment and recorded ownership.

Follow Severn Deeds Through Time

MDLandRec provides land instruments and verified index entries from Maryland's counties after a free account sign-in. Anne Arundel electronic index systems include COTT from 1967, CAIS from 1992, and ELROI from 2002. Those are system dates, not the beginning of the county's deeds. Search Severn Court Records by Name

Maryland Case Search covers the Circuit Court in Annapolis and Anne Arundel District Court locations in Annapolis and Glen Burnie. The Glen Burnie counter is often closer to Severn. Search exact names or place a trailing percent sign after at least one character for a partial first or last name. Broad searches stop at 500 results, so dates, court, case type, and first name are useful filters. Anne Arundel Circuit civil coverage starts in 1991 and criminal coverage in 1989.

A web result can show parties, case number, filing and status dates, charge or case type, disposition, attorneys, and docket events. A docket is the chronological list of filings and court actions. It is a summary, not the authoritative case file. Open files may be inspected at the clerk's office, and a courthouse kiosk may show documents withheld from remote view. Additional information is requested in person or writing, not by phone.

Locate Severn Estate Connections

EstateSearch can connect a deceased person to an alias, personal representative, attorney, filing date, status, estate number, and docket. Statewide coverage generally begins in 1998, with some older entries. A surname may use a trailing percent sign. A date-range query needs at least a partial name, while an estate-number search requires all 12 characters, including leading zeroes.

The representative is especially useful in family research or heir matters because that person may lead to the underlying will and filings. The online entry is still a route to the file, not the whole record. Anne Arundel Register of Wills accepts in-person or written requests for added material. Older wills, probate indexes, and census resources at the Maryland State Archives extend the trail beyond the online start date.

Severn Vital Records and Family Links

Maryland's Vital Statistics Administration issues modern birth, death, marriage, and divorce-verification products under eligibility rules. Anne Arundel County Health Department offers birth and death certificates by appointment. The Circuit Court clerk supplies marriage-license and divorce-decree files. A state divorce verification is not the decree, settlement, docket, or full case record.

Birth certificates under 100 years old and death certificates under ten years old remain restricted in Archives custody under State Government §9-1015. Older births and deaths become unrestricted there, while marriage licenses and reports of absolute divorce or annulment in Archives custody are unrestricted. Even while a certificate is closed, Archives indexes and limited extracts can support genealogy.

The Maryland Business Entity Search accepts an exact or partial entity name or a Department ID. Results can disclose entity status, resident agent, and personal-property information for corporations, partnerships, limited-liability entities, professional corporations, and trade names. Most documents filed after August 2001 are commonly available in the Amendments area.

A resident agent is the person or business designated to receive formal notices for the entity. That entry can verify a business contact, but it does not prove ownership, present residence, or who manages day-to-day work. Professional credentials should be checked in the board responsible for that field because Maryland does not use one uniform license directory.

Check Severn Custody Records Carefully

The Anne Arundel County Inmate Locator searches people currently held in county facilities by exact name or identification number. County results can include case numbers that link into Maryland Case Search. The Maryland DPSCS locator is the statewide route for incarcerated individuals. These systems have different custody scopes, so a no-match in one is not a definitive statewide result.

Name similarity can cause grave errors. Compare an identification number, age or date field when displayed, court case, and facility before drawing a conclusion. Current custody is also time-sensitive. Use the published facility number to verify status, and never pay a caller who claims money will secure immediate release or cancel monitoring.

Checking both scopes avoids treating a county-only list as the full Maryland custody picture.

Rebuild Historic Severn Name Trails

The Anne Arundel County Public Library genealogy collection offers newspapers, databases, and county history resources, with Severn Library serving as a nearby access point. The Maryland Room at Busch Annapolis Library holds deeper local history material, and some general collection items may circulate or be placed on hold. The Anne Arundel Genealogical Society cemetery database adds surname and cemetery searches, alternate cemetery names, maiden names, and burial details.

Grave Matters volume 1 covers 92 burial sites in northern Anne Arundel County, explicitly including Severn, Fort Meade, Harmans, and nearby communities. A bride-only marriage index, maiden-name cemetery entry, obituary, and probate file can be chained when a woman appears under a later surname. This is more reliable than assuming that a sparse Annapolis directory proves Severn residence.

Maryland State Archives land abstracts from 1786 through 1805 have a special purpose. They list parties, property description, purchase amount, recording date, and were created as insurance against loss of the county books. Modern search failure should therefore lead to microfilm, tract indexes, grantee indexes, and abstracts rather than end the inquiry.

Account for Severn Geography

Official sources may describe the same northern Anne Arundel area as Severn, Odenton-Severn, Harmans, Hanover, Fort Meade, or Annapolis Junction. Severn is a Census boundary, while planning, school, postal, cemetery, and office geographies follow other lines. Search nearby place names when a newspaper, school cluster, church record, or cemetery book was organized outside the CDP label.

The warning applies most strongly to printed directories. Maryland State Archives lists scattered Annapolis city directory years from 1896-97 through 1972 and telephone directories from 1909 through 1947-48, but no continuous Severn directory run. A name in an Annapolis volume must be supported by a deed, census entry, probate file, newspaper, school roster, or cemetery record before it is treated as a Severn connection.

When Severn Online Search Stops

A web no-match is not the same as no record. Case Search omits some protected matters and older coverage, SDAT cannot query an owner name, MDLandRec requires an account, and printed directories do not form a continuous Severn series. The next step should fit the gap. A courthouse kiosk or written clerk request can reach an open case file. The Circuit Court land terminal and Maryland State Archives can bridge older deed indexes. Library staff can help locate newspapers, cemetery references, and local-history material that has no public name form.

For county agency records that are not already posted, the Anne Arundel Public Information Act portal routes a request by department and record type. Describe an existing record series, names or addresses, date range, and preferred electronic format. Maryland's ordinary outer response period is 30 days. If more than ten working days are needed, the custodian must give the reason, expected time, and estimated fee range within those ten working days. The first two hours of search and preparation are not charged under the general fee rule.

Official sources offer a clear chain from index to custodian and certified copy. Commercial compilations may be faster for a broad lead, but their data can be stale, merged, or detached from the source. Use them, if at all, only as hints. Confirm the result in the government record, and use source-specific removal procedures if a commercial listing exposes unwanted information.
